She’s always up for a star-studded shindig, and last night (February 24) First Lady Michelle Obama showed up at the 85th Academy Awards via satellite.
The Commander-in-Chief’s wife received an introduction from Hollywood veteran Jack Nicholson before she handed out the award for Best Picture to “Argo” mastermind Ben Affleck.
Michelle declared, "Thank you Jack, and welcome to the White
House everyone. I'm so honored to introduce the nominees for Best
Picture. And to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden
our minds and transport us to places we have never imagined."
"These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are or what we look like or where we come from or who we love, but they are especially important for our young people . . . I want to thank all of you here tonight for being part of that vitally important work,” she added.
And of course, the FLOTUS was decked out head-to-toe in a gorgeous Naeem Khan dress with chandelier earrings.
The First Lady’s communications director Kristina Schake explained that Mrs. Obama was delighted to receive an invitation to be part of the Oscar buzz. "The Academy Awards approached the First Lady about being a part of the ceremony. As a movie lover, she was honored to present the award and celebrate the artists who inspire us all—especially our young people--with their passion, skill and imagination."
