Final Potter Film Casts Magic On Box Office

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has broken box office records on both sides of the Atlantic on its opening weekend.

In the US and Canada, the final adaptation of JK Rowling's Potter series took a massive £104m - breaking the previous record of £99m held by 2008's The Dark Knight.
It had already made £57m on its opening day, shattering the single day record set in 2009 by Twilight Saga: New Moon.
In Britain, the film took £23m after fans queued for hour

The first part, The Deathly Hallows Part 1, had held the previous record with £18m when it was released last November.
The final instalment of the franchise also smashed the record for the biggest single day release – taking £9m on Friday.
Deathly Hallows Part 2, starring Daniel Radcliffe as the boy wizard, also raked in a big number of ticket sales in Australia, Germany and France.
Fans from all over the world queued for hours to be among the first to see the final Potter film with cinemas putting on midnight viewings.
Most theatres were showing the film in 3D, increasing the ticket price.

It has been 10 years since the first adaptation was released.
Audiences have seen the young cast, including Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, grow into adults before their eyes.
The actors bid an emotional farewell when the film premiered in London earlier this month
