Katie Holmes' swift and sneaky divorce filing from Tom Cruise was due in large part to shield their 6-year-old daughter Suri Cruise from the Church of Scientology.
Katie settled her divorce from the Rock of Ages actor in just 11 days, and gained primary custody of their daughter.
However, Katie may not be out in the clear according to the new feature in the October issue of Vanity Fair.
Former Scientologist Samantha Domingo (whose ex-husband Placido Domingo Jr. left the church and spoke out after Scientologists told him to disconnect from his wife) told the magazine that the way Katie filed for divorce behind Tom's back and enrolled Suri in private school automatically makes her an enemy in the eyes of the Scientology — an organization Tom is still so highly affiliated with.
"According to Scientology doctrine, Katie has denied Suri her spiritual eternity in the church. There's no chance for her now," Samantha said.
"Why would Katie deny their daughter her spiritual freedom? How suppressive is that? If [Tom] loves his daughter, he will never give up on [Scientology], she continued.
"He will try to use every means available to help his child, and he does think he's helping his child, but he's also helping the church control his life."
However, Tom hasn't been told to disconnect from his ex-wife and their daughter — an example of how highly he is regarded within the religion.
But it wasn't so easy with his former wife Nicole Kidman. Tom — and their two kids, Connor and Isabella — were forced to disconnect from Nicole after Scientology officials labeled her a "suppressive person."
