‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Loses 25 Pounds In Jail

The troubled 'Teen Mom' star will be locked up for up to five years, but her mom Tonya insists being behind bars has helped Amber turn her life around — she has lost 25 pounds, and even joined the jail choir! Read on to find out more details.
Amber Portwood is no stranger to the legal system, and it would seem that being in jail for five years after refusing to complete rehab would have made her hit rock bottom, but it looks like being in the slammer has done some good for the 22-year-old mother.

The Teen Mom star's mom Tonya Portwood said in an interview with MailOnline that Amber is actually in a much better place now than she was a few months ago.

"My first visit with Amber was emotional and filled with lots of hugs and tears, but she looks great and she's already done a complete 180 since being locked up," Tonya said.

She has even joined parenting classes and the jail choir!

"Now instead of fighting and taking drugs Amber is heavily into the jail choir and practices every day with them," she continued. " She is loving it and hopes one day (Amber's daughter) Leah will come and watch her perform."

Being incarcerated has even helped Amber adopt a healthier lifestyle.

"She's lost a lot of weight by staying active and even though the guards and inmates try to pick fights Amber is staying out of trouble and spending time each day writing a book about her life,"

Tonya remains optimistic that Amber is on the right path, and hopes she will be able to ger her prison sentence reduced for good behavior.

"Prison is really helping Amber turn her life around and she's exactly where she needs to be right now," she said and added, "Amber wants to help rehabilitate other teen moms with similar problems to finally use her fame for good."

Good for Amber. We wish her all the best and that she finds the help she needs.
