Cech Clanger Costs Blues

Petr Cech's late gaffe gifted lowly Wigan a point as Chelsea's pursuit of the top two faltered with a 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium.
Jordi Gomez gleefully punished the Blues goalkeeper's inexplicable handling error (88) to cancel out a classy Daniel Sturridge strike (59) in the nick of time.
If the equaliser owed much to good fortune there was nothing unjust about the outcome to a contest which was even for long periods.
Only a lack of potency in the final third gave any clue to the Latics' precarious position as too often Victor Moses' fine approach work failed to translate into clear chances.
The winger howled for a first-half penalty when his shot struck the arm of Branislav Ivanovic and, with half-time done, sent a wild shot out for a throw-in after some neat ball juggling in the Blues box.
Chelsea began to threaten, Didier Drogba poking into the side-netting before Sturridge expertly pulled down Ashley Cole's pass and volleyed firmly across Ali Al Habsi.
But the Londoners failed to go for the jugular, and it took an Ivanovic clearance to keep out Franco Di Santo before Cech's failure to gather a Hugo Rodallega grass-cutter gave grateful Gomez a fourth goal in five games
