Oscar-winning Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has said he wants Katy Perry to play Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway version of his latest film.
My Week With Marilyn, which is released this week, stars Michelle Williams as the screen icon.
It is based on the memoirs of Colin Clark who spent a week with Monroe in 1957 when she was in the UK filming The Prince And The Show Girl with Laurence Olivier.
But Weinstein has his eye on pop star Perry taking on the role in a stage version
He said: "If My Week With Marilyn is successful, at some point, five years, ten years from now, I think Katy would be perfect to play Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn on Broadway, sing those songs, do the dances."
Brokeback Mountain actress Williams is tipped to receive her third Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Monroe in the film.
Weinstein added: "I mean Michelle could do it. Michelle is so good she could do it live, if she ever wanted to do it
"I don't know if she would ever want to revisit it, but Katy would blow it out of the universe, and that's the kind of Broadway show I'd like to make."
Weinstein met Perry last year when he took his daughters to the annual Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden in New York.
A remix of her new song The One That Got Away features in a new trailer for My Week With Marilyn and has helped generate interest among her fans.
Weinstein said: "Katy posted it on her Twitter and Facebook and the next thing you know 250,000 people have downloaded the trailer in an hour."
Weinstein created his film studio The Weinstein Company with brother, Bob, in 2005 when they left Miramax Films which they co-founded in 1979.
The studio was behind last year's Oscar-winning film The Kings Speech starring Colin Firth.
