Nearly two years after her sudden passing, Amy Winehouse's life will soon make it to the big screen.
Universal Music and documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia collaborate with Focus Features International to bring the project to the Cannes Film Market next month.
In a statement, the filmmakers shared, "Amy was a
once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention; she wrote
and sung from the heart, and everyone fell under her spell. But
tragically, Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media
attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious
lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success, but then we
were quick to judge her failings when it suited us."
Using unseen archive footage, the movie will follow the "Rehab" singer's rise to the top and her struggles with drugs and alcohol that led to her 2011 death from alcohol poisoning.
