We caught up with J'Something from SA's hottest house group, Mi Casa, to chat about their success – and his mom staking him on Facebook and Twitter!

How does it feel to be the biggest band in SA?
So thankful - it's a feeling that's hard to describe. We don't see ourselves as being anything except ourselves. But we are thankful and humbled by the thought that something that started by luck has turned into what you mention as the biggest band in SA. It's a blessing and gift from God to be on such a pedestal, but now we have the responsibility of what to say and how to carry oneself. We are what we are because of other people.

What's your favourite website?
We don't have a lot of time to be on the 'net but I used to read a lot of blogs. I used to live on ultimateguitar.com because I do play guitar. I did the guitar licks on "Heavenly Sent" - I do play but it's not my strong point!

What are you listening to at the moment?
The Soil - I love those guys, and some new tracks that I'm working on. We're re-releasing the album, doing a Platinum Edition and doing an exclusive track for the album. It's house but infused with an electro sort of vibe. The album should be available in a few weeks.

Who would you love to be remixed by?
So many people have remixed us, but we're working on a remix pack with Black Coffee, AtJazz and Gregor Salto, which SoulCandi are really excited about. In fact, let me check out how that's going' [picks phone up]. So that question is being fulfilled right now!

Do you prefer going to the bush or lazing by the seaside?
I love them both. When I went on holiday to the coast I ended up by the bush! The nice thing about the bush is that there are no people, no one asking you to do anything: it's just chilled. I've lived by the seaside all my live so I prefer the bush. One day I want to get a jeep and just go up north. I enjoy game lodges, not the hectic stuff like camping. Seeing the African Bush is one of my hobbies - I'm always the one waking up early to go for a game drive and stuff.

What's next?
We've come to the place now where at 11 to 12 months old we have a Platinum album, three hit singles, three SAMAs and a 3D music video, we're forced to think of what's next and what's fresh. We are forced to go to the next goal: international recognition. We want to go international as an established and respected band in our own territory who get international recognition because we deserve to go there. We want to take what we have to people and showcase it. We've done many Southern African countries: we have Nigeria in the pipeline; we have Portugal in August; Bulgaria, Spain and the UK. We don't want to go on a holiday and do some cheap gigs: we want to represent.

What do you guys do to pass time when you're waiting at airports or at soundcheck?

We always go eat - it's a thing of ours. I always buy some magazines, we usually go to the clothing stores or to the music shop. We've got this thing where one guy will buy the other two guys a CD. Soundcheck: we always try to do new songs kind of like how Mi Casa started in the beginning. That's where a lot of songs from the next album has been created.

If you could go back in time 11 or 12 months, what would you tell yourself?
Get ready! Get ready to know that everyone will want a piece of you. When you look back I have to thank God for this but we're all the same guys. I'm not anyone special. I think part of me was ready though.

How important is family to you?
Family is very important but my definition of family is very different: family for me is not about blood but the people that love me and the people that I love - Mo-T [ Mi Casa bandmate] is my brother. I've grown up with my mom all my life - I was 9 when my parents got divorced and haven't really had a relationship with my dad. I've never lived with my brother but we're close and he is pretty involved in Mi Casa which is cool. My mom is my hero - she's my foundation, and she's my biggest fan. She listens to everything and watches everything – she stalks me on Facebook and Twitter!

Mi Casa will be appearing at the MTV Base Lifestyle Oasis at the Vodacom Durban July on Saturday 7 July.
