N 3.6 billion For 6 Generators!: Do Delta State Generators Run on Ace of Spades?

The Delta State Commissioner of Power and Energy, Charles Emetulu has disclosed that the Uduaghan administration expends N 75 million on diesel monthly to power street lights in Asaba and Warri.

However analysts are in an uproar over the amount saying it is "colossal" and that the government is fraudulent in its claim that it has spent N 3.6 billion over the past four years powering street lights, especially considering the epic amounts of armed robberies and kidnappings in the state.

The generators supposedly consuming the N 3.6 billion diesel number not more than six, Four in Asaba and two in Warri of 60kva and 40kva specifications.

Mathematically speaking, someone is embezzling a lot of funds in the government house. The only other alternative is that the generators are drinking Ace of Spade champagne. Because you could fill the generators with Moet and still wouldn't spend as much as N 3.6 billion, however maybe with Ace of Spades you'd need a supplementary budget.

If the information made public by Daily Trust is true, Charles Emetulu has said to all of Deltans, "maga don pay."

Typical 60KVA generators have a tank capacity of 150 liters of diesel and their engines use 9.7 liters of diesel per hour. This means a full tank of 150 litres can last 15 hours. Delta State keeps its street lights on during the 12 hours of darkness in a day, meaning it is impossible for it to use more than 150 liters in a day. 150 liters multiplied by N 170 per litre of diesel is N 25, 500, so the government cannot possibly spend more than N30, 000 (inclusive of transport etc) on fueling a single generator in a day.

Thirty thousand naira multiplied by the 6 generators in operation equates to N 180,000 daily spend on diesel. Therefore monthly spend on diesel is N 5.4 million/month, infinitesimally smaller than the commissioner's claims.  Somebody over-budgeted for this with N 69.6 million. Who is the auditor? Maybe it is Akintola Williams, or maybe not. There is no need for name calling here as with the Fuel subsidy probe. In fact why name call, when we all know who the usual suspects are.

We all need to shed a tear over the collective affairs of our nation. N 69.6 million being stolen on 6 60kva generators alone. How will power ever work? Generator importation is obviously a multi-billion dollar black market organization for our elite, similar to terrorism, health, education, defense, or any other subhead in the budget.
