Liverpool 1-1 Man City
Manchester City defenders scored in both nets at Liverpool as spoils were shared with a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
The sides played out an enthralling encounter on what had been a sombre day for football but Joleon Lescott's own goal (33) ensured the disciplined hosts deservedly made a point.
Kenny Dalglish's side had chances to take all three but it was the league leaders who made the breakthrough when Vincent Kompany glanced in David Silva's corner (31).
Yet Lescott made an unwelcome contribution just moments later, diverting Charlie Adam's harmless shot past his keeper, and Liverpool left the field at the break with the upper hand.
Stewart Downing went close to rewarding their building momentum with a dipping volley, before Silva twisted and turned himself silly when he was perfectly placed to shoot.
Buit Mancini will have been grateful to have avoided defeat on his birthday after substitute Mario Balotelli was dismissed for two quick yellows (82) and then Joe Hart superbly denied Andy Carroll's goalbound header
