Manchester United demolish Bolton

English Premier League champions Manchester United continued their excellent start to the season by blowing Bolton Wanderers away at the Reebok Stadium 5-0.

The star man was Wayne Rooney whose hat-trick -- his second in successive games -- ensured that Manchester United stay top of the league.

The match was dominated by Manchester United, who quickly took the lead through their Mexican striker Javier Hernandez.

But it wasn't long before Rooney got involved and scored twice in the first half before completing his three-goal haul late on.

Hernandez scored his second -- and should have completed a hat-trick himself in what was his first start of the season -- against a Bolton side that offered very little resistance.

"We kept playing our football. That is what we are here to do," Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson told AFP.

"We withstood all the challenges and just got on with it." .

Earlier in the day Manchester City put pressure on their city rivals after beating Wigan 3-0, briefly going top of the league themselves.

Sergio Aguero continued his fine start for his new employers by scoring a hat-trick, but Manchester United's five-star show ensured that it was the red half of the city that ended the day happier.

Elsewhere Arsenal recorded their first win of the season, a narrow 1-0 victory against newly promoted Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium. Russian international Andrey Arshavin scored after a defensive mix-up.

Former Real Madrid striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored on his debut for Tottenham Hotspur as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0, whilst Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season was ended by Stoke City, a Jonathan Walter's penalty the difference between the two sides.

Chelsea kept in touch with the leaders thanks to a 2-1 victory against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Captain John Terry and Daniel Sturridge scored the two goals.

But it is the two teams from Manchester, both of whom have played four matches and won four matches, that continue to set a marker for the rest of the league
