This week, Nigeria’s DJ Humility will set the House ablaze during the second last Saturday night party this AMplified Season!
DJ Humility was born Benedict Afagwu, in Lagos Nigeria in 1978. He attended Stadium High School, where he developed his interest in music and spinning the vinyls.
His passion for the turntables was so strong that it kept him out of school. He hung out and picked up skills from professional deejays including DJ Stramborella and Larry B-fresh. After Secondary Education, he trained professionally as a Deejay with renowned Deejay Funky Jay from 1995 to 1999. During the period of his training with Funky Jay, he participated in his first deejay competition NDJC (Nigerian Deejay Championship) in 1995, where came out tops amongst many talented deejays. In 1997, he also participated in another Deejay competition tagged DBN/SolidVibes where he came out as the first runner-up.
He participated in other championships as he rose through the ranks in the Nigerian deejaying scene.
His radio career began in 2003 when he joined Silverbird’s Rhythm 93.7fm as an in-house Deejay. In no time, his talent and skills were recognised by the general public and his time on air received massive support from listeners around the City of Lagos. Over the years, he has won several awards for his talent as a deejay including; ‘Best Radio DJ’ at the AMEN Awards and most recently ‘World Best DJ’ at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, held in New York City recently.
